How can we positively impact the quality of life on this planet? Many ideas are out there – many of them very good ones. Impacting the quality of life seems like such a monumental task. Why? The answer is really quite simple and yet potentially provocative and controversial. We think that dealing with what’s out in reality – the things we witness – has something to do with impacting the quality of life on this planet in the future.
Before you dismiss this statement on quality of life, here’s what I don’t mean. I don’t mean we’re all just going to be happier and have a better quality of life while people are starving or dying in senseless wars. Nor do I mean that if you see someone in need of help that you just ignore them. If you see someone who’s hungry, give him a sandwich if you can. If you see someone who’s cold, give her your jacket if you can. Do what you can to help those in need.
Just don’t do one thing – don’t confuse doing that with creating a different future or better quality of life. If you baked a white cake and decided you wanted a chocolate cake, you wouldn’t take the white cake and try to fix or change that it’s a white cake, would you? You wouldn’t try to inject brown die into the white cake hoping that somehow, someway it would magically turn chocolate. Nor would you eat the white cake trying to convince yourself that it’s really a chocolate cake. What would you do? You’d bake a chocolate cake!!!
Now there are all sorts of things you might do with that vanilla cake, but if you wanted a chocolate cake, the fact that a vanilla cake existed before your eyes would be irrelevant. The same goes for life and the things that impact the quality of life. The fact that the things are the way they are in our life doesn’t have any connection to creating the life we want unless we make that connection. In the book, A Life Worth Living, you will learn how to see one thing from the other (vanilla cake, chocolate cake) with regard to your life so that you can set out to powerfully impact the quality of life for yourself and for all.
